Description The U.S. Navy anti-submarine destroyer USS Basilone (DDE-824) underway off Boston, Massachusetts (USA), on 21 July 1949. Basilone was launched at Orange, Texas (USA) in 1945 but was not completed. She was towed, to Quincy, Massachusetts, where the ship was converted to an anti-submarine destroyer by the Bethlehem Steel Co. Redesignated DDE-824 on 28 January 1948 Basilone was commissioned on 26 July 1949. She was completed without torpedo tubes but fitted with the Mk 108 launcher for the RUR-4 Weapon Alpha.
