Description
English: Soviet commemorative 1 ruble Cu-Ni coin (mass: 12.8g, mf: N/A, diameter: 31mm, thickness: 2.3mm, quality: proof restrike) of the 165th anniversary of the birth of Marxism co-founder Friedrich Engels.
  • Obverse shows the coat of arms of the USSR, the Russian text for "USSR" (СССР, tr: SSSR), the coin's denomination of 1 ruble (1 РУБЛЬ, tr:1 RUBL'), and the date of mintage (1985).
  • Reverse shows an image of Engels, the text "Friedrich Engels" in Russian (ФРИДРИХ ЭНГЕЛЬС, tr: FRIDRIKH ENGEL'S) on the coin's lower rim and the dates of his birth and death(1820-1895).
  • The edge shows the text "One Ruble" in Russian (ОДИН РУБЛЬ, tr: ODIN RUBL'), and also the text "1988 N" in Russian (1988 Н).

Note: "1988 N" on the coin's edge indicates that it is a coin restrike, in this case, re-struck in the year 1988. The letter "N" of the Latin alphabet corresponds to the letter "Н" in the Russian alphabet which stands for the word "Novodel" (Новодел), meaning "remake" or "restrike" in the Russian language.

Note: "tr:" is an abbreviation for transliteration
