English: U.S. Army Sgt. Kendrick Leinwebber, a wideband satellite communication planner assigned to U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense’s Satellite Operations Brigade, helps prepare meals for Afghan refugees in support of humanitarian relief efforts Aug. 30, 2021, at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Ramstein is a transit location for evacuees from Afghanistan, providing temporary lodging, food, medical services and treatment while they await transportation to their next destinations. More than 7,000 evacuees landed at Ramstein within the first 48 hours of Operation Allies Refuge, according to information from the U.S. Air Force. The brigade provides global military SATCOM support 24/7 operations at five Wideband SATCOM Operations Centers and four Regional SATCOM Support Centers to all elements of the Department of Defense, U.S. government agencies and U.S. allies and partners. The brigade has forces within the U.S. Northern Command, U.S. European Command and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command areas of responsibility, but support every combatant command and nine Wideband Global Satellite partners: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand, Czechia and Norway. Leinwebber is from Spokane, Washington. |
