English: USO Show Vietnam 1968 (United Service Organization). Jennie and Terrie Frankel sang folk songs, played a Gibson 12 String guitar, accordions and clarinet and entertained troops in the fields (boonies) in South Vietnam with comedian Joey Bishop and their troop from Chicago called The Sig Sakowitz Show. Jennie and Terrie were early Doublemint Twins who were were given a GS15 rating (Colonel rating) and traveled with their escort officer to remote areas to entertain - they did not need electricity. Servicemen would wait for hours in the hot sun for their show to arrive - grateful for a welcomed taste of home. Others in the troop were Sara Sue from the Gaslight Club and Comedian Tony Diamond. They also did shows with Tippi Hedren and Mel Bishop and mingled with personality Martha Raye at their Saigon Hilton Hotel. |
