English: The Intrepid museum features the original 1945 Iwo Jima statue by Felix de Weldon depicting the flag raising captured in Joe Rosenthals famous photograph. De Weldon later constructed the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va., in the same fashion as the original statue. Historian Rodney Hilton Brown discovered the remains of the original in 1989, and he restored the statue to its original condition before donating it to the Intrepid museum in 1995. |
