Description
English: Gen. James F. Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, and key leaders of the renovation project cut the ribbon at the re-opening for the Home of the Commandants, which went under renovations last November. The home was built in 1806 and has housed every commandant since the Corps’ third commander. The house is also said to be the oldest continuously occupied building in Washington. According to legend, British refused to burn down the Home of the Commandants along with the rest of the Washington area in 1814 out of respect for the Marine Corps.
