English: Two Small-Arms Protective Insert plate carriers, one from 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and the other from 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, rest against each other, symbolizing the transfer of authority of Garmsir district, April 26. After serving for seven months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, 2/1 will soon return to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif. The incoming battalion, based out of Hawaii, will be supporting Regimental Combat Team 1 while partnering with the Afghan National Security Forces and Afghanistan to conduct counterinsurgency operations to secure the Afghan people, defeat insurgent forces, and enable ANSF assumption of security responsibilities in the region. Ultimately, the partnered forces promote the expansion of stability, development and legitimate governance. |
