English: Maj. Gen. John A. Toolan, the commander of II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), carries Sgt. Michael Taggart, the noncommissioned officer in charge of II MEF's special security office, during the movement under fire portion of a combat fitness test that was conducted aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., recently. The event marked the first time that Marines at the command element of II MEF (Fwd) have been able to train together since standing up as a forward command, Aug. 20, 2010. "This is a little bit of teambuilding," Toolan said. "This is the first time we're able to get everyone out and see everybody's face." The CFT is intended to keep Marines ready for the physical rigors of contemporary combat operations. For the Marines of II MEF (Fwd), it has direct application to their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. "We're all going to be in harm's way in a couple of months and this, in reality, is what it's like there," Toolan said. |
