English: ) Marine Master Sgt. William Howe, enlisted conductor, Marine Corps Band New Orleans, tossed beads to New Orleans Saints fans attending the Krewe of National Football League kickoff parade. The parade celebrated the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIV championship. It was the first time in the 91-year history of the NFL that a parade was hosted in New Orleans to kickoff the first regular season game. The parade traveled through the heart of the historic French Quarter, starting on Esplanade Avenue and North Peters, traveling towards downtown on Decatur, passing through Canal Street to Tchoupitoulas Avenue, and finally ending on Julia Street. The New Orleans Saints squared off in a rematch of last year’s National Football Conference championship game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Saints prevailed in the regular season opener, winning 14-9. |
