English: Lt. Gen. Richard F. Natonski, commander of Marine Forces Command, meets with Georgian Chief of Defense Maj. Gen. Devi Tchonkotadze and other members of the Georgian Ministry of Defense. Marines with Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group (MCTAG) have been working with infantry battalions from the Republic of Georgia Armed Forces to train them for deployments to Afghanistan in support of International Security and Assistance Forces there. During his two-day visit, Lt. Gen. Natonski also provided a speech during a ceremony marking the historic deployment of the Georgian 31st Light Infantry Battalion to support Marine Expeditionary Brigade Afghanistan. The 31st Battalion has been training with Marines from Marine Forces Europe and MCTAG for the past six months as the first of four Georgian battalions participating in the Georgia Deployment Program. The deployment marks the first time a foreign military force will deploy as part of a Marine Regimental Combat Team. |
