English: The Marine Corps’ first official graduating class of crew chiefs for the UH-1Y Utility Helicopter march in line after receiving their wings from Lt. Col. Mark E. Sojourner commanding officer, Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303, at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, March 12. The UH-1Y replaces the UH-1N, that has been in service since the Vietnam War. The new UH-1Y has a larger fuselage to house an improved engine system, four main and tilt-rotor blades instead of two. The UH-1Y also has greater capabilities for weapons systems, such as the ability to carry 12 rockets as opposed to the previous model’s seven. "There is a lot of pride in being one of the first crew chiefs for this aircraft in the Marine Corps," said Sgt. James Hohenstein, UH-1Y crew chief. "The instructors put a lot of effort and time into creating the syllabus and ensuring we had the highest standards possible for this and future classes." |
