English: The explosion from two MK-83 1,000-pound bombs and several hundred rounds of various small-arms munitions erupts over the munitions treatment range on the Barry M. Goldwater Range east of Yuma, Ariz., March 10, 2010. The cache consisted of six MK-83s and several thousand rounds of various small-caliber munitions, which had become unserviceable. The station explosive ordnance disposal team safely disposed of the ordnance in three separate blasts occurring one minute apart from one another. Detonating all of the ordnance at once would risk it being felt by the city of Yuma, approximately 5 miles away, said Gunnery Sgt. Michael Chapman, station EOD team leader. |
