Benton, both with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force 26, hold the wreath at the Veterans Day ceremony aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum in New York City Nov. 11, 2009. At the event, the commanding general of the 99th Regional Support Command, Army Maj. Gen. William Monk III, threw the wreath into the Hudson River. Honored at the ceremony were the ship’s Marines and sailors that served aboard her in the past. SPMAGTF-26 is made up of Marines from several units based in North Carolina and was formed to support the USS New York’s commissioning, which occurred Nov. 7. |
