English: Sgt. Jerry McPherson, infantrymen and assistant convoy commander with Personnel Security Detachment, Regimental Combat Team 1, who is a San Clemente, Calif., native, leads the PSD Marines in staging the convoy vehicles into a 360 degree security formation outside of a 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment outpost near Saqulawiayh, Iraq. McPherson has been a part of four deployments including his current tour with RCT-1. He has been to Iraq three times and he was with one of the first responders to Afghanistan directly after the events of 9/11. At that time, he was on a Marine Expeditionary Unit with 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment who conducted the longest helicopter raid in American history. He was also wounded in action in august of 2004 during a combat tour in Iraq. Currently, his mission with RCT-1's PSD is to facilitate the actions of the convoy commander and to ensure the survivability of the platoon. |
