This is a top down picture of an early USGS vertical control marker, apart of the LA (Los Angeles) datum, located just south of US 101/CA 1 near Goleta, California. The marker was placed in 1901 or 1902.

English: This is a top down picture of an early USGS vertical control marker pipe cap, apart of the LA (Los Angeles) datum, located just south of the Santa Barbra Division Union Pacific railroad. Even further north than the railroad is the US 101/CA 1. The marker was placed in 1901 or 1902.
