Summary

[edit]
Description

March is Women’s History month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites.

Name: Amanda Leilani Pollock

Title: Deputy Superintendent- Marine National Monuments Program

Duty station: Pacific Islands Refuges and Monuments Office, Honolulu Hawaii

Female Conservation Hero or Mentor: Judy Meyer- my Mom

Where did you go to school: University of California-Santa Cruz undergrad and University of Hawaii-Manoa graduate school

What did you study? Marine biology and coral reef ecology

How did you get interested in conservation? I grew up on an island and have always been fascinated with the ocean and marine environment. When I was 3 years old my mom took me tide pooling and showed me the effects of run off on the intertidal environment. I was hooked and wanted to go into conservation to make a difference.

If you could have one incredible animal adaptation, what would it be? GILLS!!!! I could go diving for hours, swimming with fishes, and not need to come up for a breath.
