English: 20180813-FS-ShastaTrinity-PRW-055 USDA Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore speaks with USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue. While the haze and the smell of smoke still linger heavily in the air USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue and Department of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke met with Redding city officials, regional lawmakers, business owners and community residents at a local restaurant for a roundtable discussion about living within Wildland Urban Interface and the economic and community impacts from the Carr Fire, Aug. 13, 2018. Moderating the meeting was Brian Dahle, Assemblyman for District 1, and in attendance were Redding Mayor Kristen Schreder, Ted Gaines, State Senator, Shasta County supervisors, Redding City council members, USDA Forest Service, CAL FIRE, local law enforcement and media. The wildfire ignited July 23 on National Park Service land in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and has burned 207,162 acres as it continues to burn north into the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. As of the secretaries visit it is 65 percent contained and there has been three firefighter fatalities. (USDA Forest Service photo by Paul Wade) |
