Čeština: Americký osobní transportní zaoceánský parník USAT Thomas v srpnu 1920 v italském přístavu Terst po skončení 32. transportu dvou tisíc československých legionářů z Vladivostoku (plavba od 20. června 1920 do 8. srpna 1920). Plavidlo bylo postaveno v loděnicích Harland & Wolff roku 1894 jako SS Persia; od roku 1897 ji používala společnost Atlantic Transport Line, která přejmenovala plavidlo na SS Minnewaska. Po ročním provozu byla roď v roce 1898 prodána americké armádě. Ta ji přejmenovala na USAT Thomas a plavidlo sloužilo v Pacifiku. Tento zaoceánský parník měl malou rychlost a parní stroje se vyznačovaly velkou spotřebu uhlí. Plavidlo bylo použito k převozu a zásobování amerických vojáků ve Vladivostoku. V roce 1922 USAT Thomas evakuoval osoby z paluby parníku City of Honolulu, který na moři zachvátil požár. V roce 1923 připlul USAT Thomas s pomocí do Jokohamy, která byla postižena zemětřesením. V roce 1928 byl USAT Thomas vyřazen ze služby a v roce 1929 bylo plavidlo sešrotováno.
English: American ocean liner USAT Thomas in August 1920 in the Italian port of Trieste after the 32nd transport of two thousand Czechoslovak Legionnaires from Vladivostok (voyage from 20 June 1920 to 8 August 1920). The vessel was built at the Harland & Wolff shipyard in 1894 as the SS Persia; from 1897 she was used by the Atlantic Transport Line, which rechristened the vessel the SS Minnewaska. After a year's service the ship was sold to the US Army in 1898. The latter renamed her USAT Thomas and the vessel served in the Pacific. This ocean liner had a low speed and the steam engines were characterized by high coal consumption. The vessel was used to transport and supply American troops in Vladivostok. In 1922, USAT Thomas evacuated persons from the deck of the steamer City of Honolulu, which caught fire at sea. In 1923, USAT Thomas arrived with relief supplies in Yokohama, which had been affected by an earthquake. In 1928, USAT Thomas was taken out of service and in 1929 the vessel was scrapped. |
