Description Past Tower 26 en route to the Amtrak Station to kick off Houston's celebration of Union Pacific's 150-year anniversary. The 844 is a 4-8-4 (Berkshire) locomotive built by American Locomotive Company (Alco) in 1944. The 844 was the last steam locomotive purchased by Union Pacific, and is currently maintained for public relations and special events as part of Union Pacific's heritage steam program. The locomotive spends most of its time in Cheyenne WY.
