Summary
[edit]DescriptionUIP (Usual interstitial pneumonia).jpg |
UIP (Usual interstitial pneumonia) Typical low magnification appearance of UIP with areas of varying appearance. On the left there are relatively normal alveoli. In the center there is interstitial fibrosis and inflammation. To the right of center there are fibroblastic foci and at the right side of the image there is dense consolidation. The term "temporal non-uniformity" is often used to describe this appearance. It appears that there are lesions of differing ages implying the the agent of injury responsible for these lesions is impacing the lung in episodic fashion over a prolonged period of time.
