Summary

[edit]
Description A U.S. Navy Kaman UH-2A/B Seasprite helicopter is refueled in flight by the guided missile cruiser USS Wainwright (DLG-28), circa 1967. Wainwright was assigned to the Positive Identification RADAR Advisory Zone (PIRAZ) station in the Gulf of Tonkin, providing radar-coverage of parts of North Vietnam. A helicopter for combat-search-and-rescue duties was always stationed on the PIRAZ ship. Note that the U.S. Navy Seasprite appears to be painted in the standard U.S. Air Force South-east Asia camouflage (medium green, dark green and tan, light grey undersides). The helicopter was probably assigned to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 7 (HC-7) "Sea Devils".
