Insects pollinating the plants included: many dozen common eastern bumblebees (Bombus impatiens), a smaller number of two-spotted bumblebees (B. bimaculatus), at least one endangered southern plains bumblebee (B. fraternus), a handful of eastern carpenter bees (Xylocopa virginica), a handful of European honeybees (Apis mellifera), an unidentified black bee with scopa on its hind legs, and a bee with metallic green head/thorax and black-and-white-striped abdomen (Agapostemon sp.?); many fiery skippers (Hylephila phyleus), a handful of silver-spotted skippers (Epargyreus clarus), and a cabbage white (Pieris rapae?); and various paper wasps and mud daubers. Most of the bumblebees and honeybees were males, without corbicula; in fact, the only bee visibly carrying pollen was the unidentified black bee, with scopa on its hind legs.
