Description
English: Udupi Shri Krishna Temple is a well-known historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Dvaita Matha located in the city of Udupi in Karnataka, India

Udupi is considered as the final resting place of Lord Sri Krishna, It is believed that Lord Krishna's idol turned his face to Kanakadasa and a small hole formed on the wall so that Kanakadasa can get a glimpse of Sri Krishna. Krishna impressed by his devotion, This spot is now known as Kanakana kindi (window of Kanaka).

Sri Krishna had just arrived in Udupi from Dwarka by way of an ancient statue. Thus started the Udupi Krishna temple story. When it comes to Udupi tourist places, most will unanimously put the Udupi Sri Krishna temple on top of the list.

Udupi Sri Krishna temple and Matha (Monastery) were set up by Sri Madhwacharya (popular Vaishnava Saint) during the 13th century.

The temple was founded in the 13th century by the Vaishnavite saint and founder of the Dvaiti school of Vedanta, Shri Madhvacharya. It is believed that the saint found the idol of Lord Krishna buried in a large stone ball of sandalwood.

There are Eight Matha (Ashta Mathas),These eight Mathas were created to preach and disseminate the lessons of the Vedas, Vedanta and the Tatvavada philosophy

The eight mathas are Pejavara Matha, Palimaru, Adamaru, Puttige Matha, Sodhe Matha, Kaniyooru Matha, Shirur Matha, Krishnapura Matha.
