English: UDD toilet with double chambers (note very steep stairs which is not recommendable)
Photographed by Rahul Ingle (Dec 2010) 200 UDD toilets have been constructed in the poor urban compound of Kanyama. The project was financed by EU and co-financed by Care. The project was implemented by Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company. Kanyama is a low lying area which is often prone to flooding during rainy season. The ground water table is high. People commonly use pit toilets. The pits are full of ground water and rain water during rainy season. The ground water is drawn through shallow wells by the community and used for showering, washing clothes, gardening etc while clean drinking water is collected from the water kiosks.
