English: U.S. and Philippine Marines prepare to board a MV-22B Osprey during Balikatan 16, at Basa Air Base, Philippines, April 14, 2016. After inserting into Crow Valley, the combined forces assaulted a notional enemy force “shoulder-to-shoulder” while close air support was provided from the skies. Balikatan is an annual bilateral training exercise that strengthens the Philippine-U.S. alliance and focuses on a variety of missions in response to conflict and crises throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
