SHOWN ARE THE 12 GEV ARC MAGNETS AT THOMAS JEFFERSON NATIONAL ACCELERATOR FACILITY. The Jefferson lab is built for nuclear physics research. Scientists use superconducting electron accelerating technology at the lab's Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) to conduct experiments. High energy electron beams from the accelerator allows scientists to probe the atoms nuclear, reveling how quarks make up protons, neutrons, and the nucleus itself.
