Description

BEAM LINES OF THE 24-BEAM, 15-TRILLION WATT "OMEGA" LASER SYSTEM.

EMPLOYED IN EXPERIMENTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LASER FUSION,THE SYSTEM OPERATES IN ONE-TENTH OF A BILLIONTH OF A SECOND.IN THAT TINY INSTANT OF TIME, THE POWER OF "OMEGA" IS MORE THAN 10 TIMES THE GENERATING CAPACITY OF THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES. THE BEAMS HEAT HYDROGEN FUEL TO A TEMPERATURE OF 60 MILLION TO 100 MILLION DEGREES, STARTING A THERMONUCLEAR REACTION THAT RESULTS IN THE RELEASE OF ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF ENERGY. THE HYDROGEN FUEL IS FOUND IN INEXHAUSTIBLE QUANTITY IN ORDINARY SEAWATER AND ONE-HALF GRAM OF IT, IN FUSION, RELEASES ENERGY EQUIVALENT TO 350 GALLONS OF GASOLINE.
