Description

A DIPOLE MAGNET FOR THE FERMI LAB ENERGY DOUBLER/SAVER SHOWN IN THE ASSEMBLY AREA OF FERMI LAB MAGNET FACILITY.

THE ENERGY SAVER WILL PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL RING OF SUPER- CONDUCTING MAGNETS WITHIN THE EXISTING ACCELERATOR TUNNEL AND THE ANCILLARY SYSTEM REQUIRED FOR THE RING TO OPERATE AS A RAPID CYCLING FIXED TARGET PROTON ACCELERATOR. THE ACCELERATOR WILL THEN BE CAPABLE OF DELIVERING 500 GEV (BILLION ELECTRON VOLT) PRIMARY PROTONS TO THREE EXTERNAL EXPERIMENTAL AREAS AND PROTONS AT ABOUT 800 GEV TO AN INTERNAL TARGET. WHEN OPERATING FOR FIXED TARGET EXTERNAL BEAM EXPERIMENTS, THE ACCELERATOR WILL BE CAPABLE OF A REPETITION RATE OF ONE PULSE EVERY 24 SECONDS.
