Description

VIEW OF AN OHMICALLY - HEATED DEUTERIUM PLASMA DURING TFTR OPERATION.

DURING TFTR OPERATION, PLASMA DISCHARGE IS MONITORED USING AN OPTICAL SYSTEM WHICH VIEWS THE INTERIOR OF THE VACUUM VESSEL. IN THE VIEW OF AN OHMICALLY-HEATED DEUTERIUM PLASMA, AN ICRF ANTENNA ; A SEGMENT OF AN OUTBOARD LIMITER ARE VISIBLE IN LEFT-SIDE BACKGROUND. BRIGHT RADIATION BELT IN FOREGROUND WHICH ENCIRCLES THE TORIODAL BUMPER LIMITER IS KNOWN AS A MARFE. IT OCCURS AS PLASMA DENSITY APPROACHES THE DISRUPTION LIMIT FOR A GIVEN SET OF DISCHARGE CONDITIONS.
