Description
Српски / srpski: Viša ženska škola (1863-1918) je prva ženska škola gimnazijskog ranga otvorena u Beogradu i Srbiji uopšte.
English: The Women's High School (1863-1918) was the first women's high school school to be opened in Belgrade and Serbia in general. With the opening of this school, the high school education of girls in Serbia began. The curriculum initially included eleven compulsory subjects that were free. The Women's High School had both an educational and upbringing role. In addition to general education, the school had the task of preparing teachers for work in women's primary schools. The educational task was accomplished in different ways. The greatest importance was attached to ethical and national values that corresponded to the needs of that time. The church also actively participated in the educational work of the school, and with its presence it tried to dose the emancipation of Serbian women. With the founding of the Higher Women's School in Belgrade, in 1863, the high school education of girls in Serbia began. Following the example of Belgrade, similar schools began to be established throughout Serbia.
