Description
English: Typhoon Khanun is the sixth typhoon of the season in the Pacific and has been classified as being of "very strong" intensity. The extreme weather event caused the suspension of flights from the city of Naha, knocking out power for more than 200,000 people and causing the evacuation of 600,000 residents. The Okinawa archipelago remains on a weather alert for flood and landslide risks until the end of August. On 2 August, one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites captured this image of the eye of the typhoon which is approaching Okinawa with speeds of up to 220 km/h. Copernicus Sentinel satellites provide free and open data that allow the monitoring of hurricanes and typhoons on a global scale.
