Description

This week we're doing something a little different - and posting an image a day from a single collection: the Clarke Photographic Collection. Those who have followed the stream for a while will be familiar with John J Clarke (1879-1961), who took many of his photographs from 1897 to 1904 while a medical student in Dublin. Unlike the studio shots of Poole or the professional commissions of French, his shots tend to be snapshots. And while therefore perhaps not as technically composed, they candidly capture the street-life of Dublin (and sometimes Donegal) from the turn of the century.

This one for example is a lovely study of fashions in clothes and shop displays....

One of our International friends (Canadian) [/photos/la_belle_province/ La Belle Province] is I think a traditional lurker, obviously she looks in every day but, only comments when we have a photo with nice hats or fashion from bygone days. Over the years she has become our go to fashion expert. It is always good to see you here!!

Although Edmund Johnson Limited is long gone, they will be remembered because of their association with three Icons of Ireland past present and future, The Sam Maguire, The Ardagh Chalice and The Liam McCarthy Cup. Thanks to [/photos/20727502@N00/ guliolopez] for the connections.
