Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Psittaciformes; Family: Loridae; Genus: Trichoglossus; Genus species: Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 24 cm; Identification: The scaly-breasted lorikeet is dark green with hints of blue on the crown and sides of the head. The throat, breast, neck, and mantle are yellow with a green edging. The underwing coverts and tail band are red; Habitat: Coastal open forests; Diet: Herbivore: pollen nectar, fruit and seeds; Reproduction: The breeding season is from May to February. Two to three eggs are laid and the incubation period for this species is 24 days long; Social Structure: The scaly-breasted lorikeet is often found in large flocks; Behavior: The scaly-breasted lorikeet is very nomadic. Flocks are very conspicuous because of noise; and when disturbed, the flock flies off screeching loudly. Flocks leave roosting trees at 6.00 a.m. and return around 5.00 p.m; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The scaly-breasted lorikeet is known to have many color mutations including: olive, yellow, jade, cinnamon, and blue.
