Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Two railway lines The train runs on the March/Peterborough line on its approach to Ely North Junction. It is a two-car Class 170 diesel set in the livery of the CrossCountry train operating company. The electrified line seen in the foreground is the London to Kings Lynn mainline. This view was taken from the Fen Rivers Walk long distance footpath which here runs parallel with the River Great Ouse, with the mainline following its course just west of it and the March/Peterborough line beyond. Ely North Junction is located at Queen Adelaide, approximately one-and-a-half miles north of Ely station. From Ely North Junction the electrified ex-GER London-Kings Lynn mainline runs north to Littleport, Downham Market and Kings Lynn. Two non-electrified double-track lines branch at North Junction: one diverges northeast to Norwich (it is marketed as "Breckland Line") and the other northwest to March and Peterborough where there are connections to the East Coast Mainline (ECML) to Scotland and the route to Birmingham.
