Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Two footbridges. The wooden footbridge carries the eastern footpath over an overflow channel which allows excess water from the drainage ditch at the edge of the field to the right to join Old Beck in times of heavy rain. Old Beck is on the extreme left of this photograph and is directed through a double culvert under the metal and concrete bridge to the left into Denton Reservoir. Denton Reservoir was constructed to feed the Grantham Canal and the system of restraining banks, dams, outfalls and surrounding water courses is interesting. The upper outfall, 1126988, allows water to flow back into the aforementioned ditch to become the new course of Old Beck which runs round the eastern side of the reservoir, under the Grantham Canal and on to join the Foston Beck and eventually the River Witham. The lower outfall, 30234, is the main source of water feeding the canal . The water outflow is through the earth retaining bank (not really a dam as it carries on round most of the reservoir), the flow being controlled by a sluice. Look at the 1:25,000 scale map on the Get-a-map link to get an overall picture.
