Summary

[edit]
Description

Two preserved steam locomotives at the National Railway Museum in York, England.

On the left, the Duchess of Hamilton, a Princess Coronation Class 6229 which was built in 1938.The next year she was shipped to North America with a specially-constructed Coronation Scot train to appear at the 1939 New York World's Fair.

In 1942 she was returned to Britain, stripped of streamlining and painted black for wartime service.

At the end of her working life, in 1964, she was saved from being scrapped and became an attraction at a Butlins Holiday Camp. Since 2009 she has been on proud display at the National Railway Museum.

The locomotive sitting on the right, 45596, "Bahamas" is an LMS 4-6-0 Class 5XP Jubilee. She was built in 1935 and is one of 191 examples built. In 1966 she was withdrawn from use and was preserved in running order.

Since I took my picture, in 2018 she was brought back into normal use and now can be seen at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in West Yorkshire.
