35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Pelecaniformes; Family: Sulidae; Genus: Sula; Genus species: Sula nebouxii. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 66 cm; Identification: The blue-footed booby has a pale, streaked head, a dark mantle with white patches on the nape and rump, white undersides, a dark tail, and bright blue legs and feet; Habitat: Open seas, coasts, islands; Diet: Carnivore: fish; Reproduction: One to three eggs are laid on the bare ground. Both parents alternate incubating the eggs for 46 days; Social Structure: Breeding takes place at different times of the year, but all boobies nest in large colonies; Behavior: Parents incubate their eggs by covering them with their webbed feet; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The bright blue feet are used in courtship displays.
