Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On 23 July 1925, Sydney hosted eight of the US Navy Battle Fleet's largest ships. On 28 July, Governor Dudley de Chair and Lady Enid de Chair hosted the Vice-Regal Garden Party in their honour at Government House grounds in the Royal Botanic Gardens. This photograph was possibly taken at this event. Over 3,000 people reportedly attended the party, which was a casual event with no formal reception and tennis games for the younger attendees. One United States naval officer spoke at the ceremony, exclaiming:

'"It's just wonderful - the view, the crowd, and the weather. One could get nothing better in the world.
Not even in California."'
The Sydney Morning Herald, 29 July 1925, p. 13
