Two Roman strainer base sherds
Description
English: A pair of worn base sherds probably from two separate Roman strainers. They both are of a sandy, yellow-grey fabric. One features a number of perforations in an irregular pattern; the patterning of the straining holes on the other sherd seems to form a more regular grid. The latter also has a curve as the base turns into the body. They are both an irregular angular shape, respectively: L.: 37.4mm, W.: 25.8mm, Th.: 7.3mm, Wt.: 9.9g; L.: 37.3mm, W.: 29.95mm, Th.: 8.4mm, W.: 8.45g. The fabric is undiagnostic; from the form one could speculate that these strainers were made at Alice Holt/Farnham on the Hampshire/Surrey border.
