Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Two canopic coffins, originals in sheet gold with inlay of glass, lapis lazuli, carnelian, obsidian and rock crystal. H. 39,5 cm, w. 11 cm. Each of the two miniature coffins designed to hold the King Tutankhamun's viscera consists of two beaten gold cases glued together. While the decoration inside the case was chasework, the outside was inlaid with coloured cells of glass and semi-precious stones. On the sides at upper arm level the goddesses Wadjet (serpent) and Nekhbet (vulture) spread their wings protectively. The canopic coffins look like miniature editions of the middle coffin, and unlike the latter they were originally made for a predecessor of Tutankhamun's, as indicated by the altered cartouches with the King's names.
