Title |
Twisted silver finger ring |
||
Description |
English: A twisted silver wire finger ring dating to the early medieval period, c. AD 900 to AD 1066.
The ring is made up of two plain, tapering rods which have been twisted together with a small wire. The object is sub-circular in plan and where the wires taper there is evidence for a break suggesting that the two ends may have been connected in the past. NCL-40E866 on the PAS database is very similar although it is slightly more ornate and unbroken. There is also a similar object in the British Museum, catalogue number 1921, 1101.376. Finger rings of this type are very similar to Viking-period arm and neck rings, simply miniature versions. |
