Description

De historie gaat terug tot 1810 met een sociëteit van een herenclub. Op 9 december 1889 opende deze ‘Vereniging De Grote Sociëteit’ een nieuwe schouwburgzaal (Kleine Zaal), tevens concertzaal, met een uitvoering door de ‘Arnhemsche Orkestvereniging’. De Grote Zaal ging open in 1953.

Begin juli 2006 is de bouw gestart van het muziekcluster in Enschede. Er worden verschillende zalen gerealiseerd, waaronder poppodia, een (muziek)theater met 1000 stoelen en een orkestbak, een muziekschool, een popcafé, oefen- en lesruimten, studio’s, kantoorruimten, centrale voorzieningen en congresfaciliteiten. Oplevering zomer 2008. Architecten: Ector Hoogstad te Rotterdam.

De Twentse Schouwburg in de Langestraat (hier op foto) wordt waarschijnlijk afgebroken. De burgers van Enschede kunnen voorstellen doen t.a.v. de vrij te komen ruimte.
