Summary
[edit]DescriptionTurner memorial, Drumbo Presbyterian Churchyard - geograph.org.uk - 841644.jpg |
English: Turner memorial, Drumbo Presbyterian Churchyard. Interesting memorial and grave of Captain James Turner in the churchyard of 841376.
The memorial reads that "here lie the remains of Captain James Turner of the 10th Royal V.B. 8th April 1834 aged 62 years". Above that is a military style relief and the words "Salamanca Vittoria America". I can't find any information on Captain Turner but I will hazard a guess that he was a soldier who saw action in the battles of Salamanca http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Salamanca in 1812, Vitoria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Vitoria in 1813 and, possibly, in America. Also mentioned on the memorial is Captain Turner's father, also James, who died on 5th December 1835, aged 102. Any further information or clarification on Captain Turner is welcomed. |
