DescriptionTurbine hall and power network in Iru Thermal Power Plant.jpg |
English: These here are the steam turbines and generators of the 2 large energy units of Iru Power Plant. The generator of the first energy block on the right has a capacity of 80 MW, the generator of the second block, a few years newer, has a capacity of 116 MW. Hot steam coming from the boilers travels to the turbine and makes it rotate. The shaft transfers the kinetic energy of rotation to the generator which rotates and turns the energy of motion into electricity. Up to a third of steam energy can be converted into electricity, the rest can be used for heating. The average maximum annual electricity output of a generator with the size of a small commercial vehicle would be enough to supply all Lasnamäe household consumers with electricity. The first energy block has been conserved and its operation discontinued. The more powerful second energy block is operational and ready to generate energy when needed and possible. |
