Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Turbine No 16 and Met Mast. The tall thin tower on the right is a Met Mast (Meteorological Communication Tower) which is for monitoring wind speed and other weather conditions for the wind farm.

The one seen here is one of two that were constructed in May 2008 next to Turbine Towers No 16 above and No 2 https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1074815 They are 60 metres in height as they need to be as close as possible to the wind turbine hub height for the data to be credible.

Construction of the wind turbines began back in November 2007 at Turbine No 16. By June 2008 engineers had constructed 26 wind turbine towers and installed 78 turbine blades 450 metres above sea level on Scout Moor amid adverse weather conditions of thick fog, gale force winds, torrential rain, snow and ice during the winter months of 2008.
