Description

c/n 84906826, l/n 06-02. Built 1989 as a Tu-160S, but modified to Tu-160M status in January 2016. This upgrade is reported to effectively double the aircrafts combat effectiveness. NATO codename ‘Blackjack’. All Tu-160s are operated by the 121st Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment (TBAP), part of the 6950th Guards Aviation Base (AvB) based at Engels-2 airbase near Saratov. The aircraft is named ‘Vasili Senko’ after the only navigator of the Soviet Air Force ever to be twice awarded the honorary title of ‘Hero of the Soviet Union’. These were awarded on 25th March 1943 and 29th June 1945. In total he had flown 430 successful bombing sorties during WW2. Seen on static display at the Aviation cluster of the ARMY 2017 event. Kubinka Airbase, Moscow Oblast, Russia.
