Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tuperssuatsiaite,
Locality
Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
Description
Found April 1997. Analyzed (XRD, EDS) This is a small specimen. But it is big on unusual, golden yellow, curly tuperssuatsiaite. In the Saint-Amable sill, tuperssuatsiaite is generally visually indistinguishable from yofortierite. According to EDS (child “photo”), this is clearly not yofortierite, In fact, the analyst suggested “amphibole group”. However, Horváth recently reported that tuperssuatsiaite is more common in the sill than previously thought, and it seemed to me that the EDS is more consistent with that possibility. (Al, Mg and especially Mn have been found in “significant” amounts in tuperssuatsiaite from Greenland.) This has now been confirmed via XRD thanks to Paula Piilonen and her team at CMN. MOB photos
