Livrée en 2 tronçons entre 1895 et 1900, la ligne de Paray le Monial (71) à Lozanne (69) joint autant de régions: la Bourgogne-Franche Comté au nord, à Auvergne-Rhône Alpes au sud. Surnommée autrefois la ligne des messageries le fret y a quasiment disparu. Subsistent quelques relations TER empruntées par des scolaires, parfois internes la semaine dans les établissements lyonnais et rentrant chez eux le w-e, ainsi que des pèlerins. Des liaisons plus longues distances comme une desserte Lyon-Tours via Moulins (03) sont ponctuellement programmées, surtout lorsque l'itinéraire principal via Roanne est neutralisé... Conçu à l'origine pour des convois lourds l'axe ne présente ainsi pas de déclivités supérieures à 11‰, mais des ouvrages d'art spectaculaires. Témoin ce viaduc surplombant la tête sud du tunnel de Claveisolles (côté Lozanne), de type hélicoïdal, long de 1 260 m à l'altitude de 420 m. La voie effectue ensuite une boucle de plusieurs km lui permettant de gagner plus de 40 m. A double sens durant un siècle, Paray-Lozanne est convertie en voie unique après 1995. Largeur de plate-forme et gabarit de voûte le montrent clairement sur cette vue. En pratique la voie paire, c'est-à-dire montante (sens Lyon-Bourgogne, les trains circulant à gauche en France...), fût déposée. Suite à des travaux de régénération menés en 2017, la vitesse maxi est portée à 100 km/h sur certaines sections. |
