Notes | tunic - Lt. Colonel - Auckland Military District Staff - New Zealand Defence - circa 1900 Belonged to Col. Arthur Morrow, circa 1890s Arthur Morrow served during NZ Wars as part of the Colonial Defence Corps but the uniform is of later period when serving as a Colonel with Auckland District Staff. See article in Cyclopaedia of NZ and MS 1323 Arthur MORROW, NZM. V.D. 1832-1937 Major, Auckland Rifle Volunteers Lt-Colonel (retired), Auckland Militia Soldier, marksman, draughtsman, artist The fifth son of an Irish military family, Arthur Morrow was destined for the Royal Marine Artillery. Instead of entering service he migrated to New Zealand, arriving in Auckland in June 1861. Here he joined the 1st Royal Company, Auckland Rifle Volunteers and in 1863 saw active service in the Waikato. He remained with the Auckland Rifle Volunteers achieving the rank of Major Commanding No 3 Company before retiring in 1883. He then joined the Auckland Militia District Staff and was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel on his retirement in 1904. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
