Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Tungnath temple, located at an altitude of 11,352 ft

is the highest Shiva temple in the world. The temple is believed to be thousands of years old and has a legend linked to the Mahabharata epic.

Tunga is an ancient Sanskrit word that translates to strong, tall, elevated or chief and Nath translates to Lord. Hence Tunganath depicts Shiva, the cosmic creator and destroyer, as the Lord of the Peaks.
